Layered Delicious Deep Dish Burritos

If your spirit animal is guacamole, you’re basically my twin. I’m essentially an honorary Latina. My sister even convinced me that we’re part Spanish – what’s the sense in arguing those blessed genetics? I am also a food enthusiast AKA foodie. So you can understand why this recipe called to my SOUL.

So, without further ado, this is your guide to layered delicious deep dish burritos. You’re welcome.

You will need the following ingredients:

  • 1 pound of lean ground beef (you can sub turkey, chicken or shrimp here)
  • 1 packet of taco seasoning
  • 1 packet of tortillas
  • 1 can of refried beans
  • 1 brick of cream cheese
  • 3 cups of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 half of a medium sweet onion
  • 1 container of sour cream
  • 1 small bottle of hot sauce
  • Guacamole (I know it’s extra)
  • Salsa (This is extra too)
  • Cilantro
  • Spring Onions
  • Lime
  • Oil


    1. Brown meat in oil
    2. Drain out oils
    3. Add taco seasoning
    4. Add refried beans
    5. Mix cream cheese and sour cream separately
    6. Spread creamy mixture at the base of a casserole
    7. Add layer of tortillas
    8. Add layer of meat mixture
    9. Add layer of cheese
    10. Add layer of hot sauce
    11. Repeat layers (make sure cheese is your top layer)
    12. Bake at 350°F for 20 to 30 minutes
    13. Garnish with cilantro and spring onions
    14. Plate portions of casserole with a side of guac/salsa/sour cream/lime if desired

    N.B: If you wish, you can also add layers of mexican or plain rice
